Keep Going

Keep Going

This particular article doesn’t relate to physical fitness, but more so to mental fitness. Pardon the cliche but mental fitness is a state of mind. Have you ever found yourself as the Mayor of “Hurtsville” and in the predicament of saying something along the lines of

just keep going, put one foot in front of the other, and just keep going” or words to that effect.

Once in this mental state of mind large quantities of energy are being expended to fuel thoughts, and to take your mind off the pain and the discomfort. People who can achieve this mindset of not giving up and just having good old-fashioned perseverance and guts are normally the top achievers in life. Did you know that between 20,000 to 30,000 Australian hearts stop each year due to cardiac arrhythmia? Often there are no warning signs which goes to show that sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) does not discriminate. However many of the deaths that occur as a result of SCA are preventable where automatic defibrillators are on hand.

Defib Your Club, For Life is a Public Access Defibrillator Program supported by the Australian Resuscitation Council and is proven to save lives where defibrillators are readily available. The aim is to increase the number of defibrillators and to strengthen the community based defibrillator program.

This week is Heart Week, an initiative driven by the Heart Foundation that urges all Australians to heed the warning signs of a heart attack.

The signs of a heart attack are not always obvious and can differ from person to person but the message is, the sooner you seek help the better.

If you would like to learn more about the signs of a heart attack and how to take part in the initiative then visit the Heart Week page and print off the awareness posters and fliers and put them up around your workplace and home.

Starting the kettlebell push press

If you have the dip and the drive sorted, then all you need to do is tack an overhead press on the end and you’ve got a push press.  Therefore, the best way to ensure your push press technique is good from the get-go is to master the overhead press, then practise the dip and drive, then put them all together.  Be aware of fixation, consciously stop the kettlebell as quickly as possible overhead until it becomes automatic.

Ratatouille makes a tasty side dish or a main course, it’s also a good way of eating a variety of different vegetables and a great one to feed the kids. You can introduce different vegetables if you like but here is a traditional recipe of mine that I happen to really enjoy. I hope you enjoy it too.

Sarah was ecstatic when she found out she was pregnant, and being a very active person, was keen to be as fit as she could during her pregnancy. She ate only the healthiest food and exercised right up until the day of her birth. Yet after the arrival of her baby, her exercise and health routines went out the window.

She felt completely absorbed in her role as a mother and overwhelmed by the conflicting advice offered on what she should be doing for her body post birth. As she was neither exercising nor giving herself enough time to achieve adequate mental rest, she was emotionally and physically on the brink of exhaustion.
